St. John's HSA
The St. John's Home & School Association exists to help all school parents connect with the SJE community in a meaningful way and to build community around the school. Active parent involvement has been a hallmark of St. John's for decades, and the HSA is working to continue that tradition
All parents & guardians of St. John's students are automatically members of the St. John's HSA and are welcome at all meetings and on all committees. We would love your input and help!
The HSA has been organized around six key committees:
1. Communications: Responsible for keeping parents informed of the many great things going on at SJE and with the HSA. The Communications Committee works on the Weekly Express. The Weekly Express is a combined school and HSA newsletter that provides academic, HSA and sports updates, reminders and forms. This newsletter is emailed every Tuesday afternoon to all parents. The Weekly Express can also be found on the SJE website under Forms/Links. Email is a key tool in all SJE communications. If we don't have your email address(es), please send the volunteer request form back to school with your contact information or contact the HSA
2. Teacher Appreciation: The name says it all. This committee works to make sure our great faculty and staff understands just how important they are to our students and families. The committee plans lunch/dinner for the teachers during parent conferences, works on surprises for the teachers during Catholic School week, along with other tokens of appreciation throughout the school year.
3. Welcoming: Helping all new families get off to a great start at SJE is the mission of this committee. They plan an ice cream social in August for all kindergarten and new students and are a presence at Open House and beyond for incoming families -- our Welcoming Committee is in many ways responsible for the first impression families have of St. John's.
4. Family Social Events: This is our biggest committee when it comes to total volunteers needed and total activities organized. We have several social events planned for the school year and will be looking for volunteers to be part of the different event committees. Tentative 2010-2011 plans include: Santa Breakfast, NYC trip, Father/Daughter Dance and more.... Please check our Calendar and the Weekly Express for specifics on these events. Playing even a small helper role on a single event is a huge help. And remember...if you cannot help out on a committee, attending an event is another way to show your support for the HSA.
5. Student Enrichment: This committee plans in-school events that promote the enrichment of academic, physical and/or spiritual growth. There are 3 separate committees: Wellness, SJE Reads and Field Day. Wellness plans and implements a week long program on wellness that includes guest speakers, fun activities and much more. This committee also organizes a Blood Drive. SJE Reads plans a Book Swap in the Spring and will be looking to expand with new programs. Field Day works on planning and implementing an end of the year day of fun for the student body. Contact the HSA if you would like to volunteer for one of these committees.
6. Involvement Committee: This key group exists to help get as many SJE parents and families connected with the school as possible. If you would like to get involved and aren't sure how the committee can help. We value all kinds of involvement and realize that it needs to fit your interests, abilities and availability. This committee works closely with the other key committees to determine where there is need for volunteers or leadership roles.
The HSA will have two general meetings throughout the year. (See Calendar) The meetings are open to the entire school community. Sister provides updates on the happenings around school and HSA provides a run-down on past and upcoming events. The general meeting may include a guest speaker or content piece. Most of the day-to-day work of the HSA will take place at the committee or event level and at as-needed "Working Meetings". We encourage you to get connected in any way you can.
It's worth repeating that the SJE HSA is open to all and we would love any level (a little or a lot) or type (from-home, at-school, weekends, etc.) of involvement you can give. Please feel free to contact the HSA anytime and we'll do all we can to be of service.
Thanks in advance for all your help and support!
