St. John's HSA

The St. John's Home & School Association is new for the 2007-2008 school year and has been formed to help all parents connect with the SJE community in a meaningful way. Active parent involvement has been a hallmark of St. John's for decades, and the HSA is working to continue that tradition.

All parents & guardians of St. John's students are automatically members of the St. John's HSA and are welcome at all meetings and on all committees. We'd love your input and help!

For this first year, the HSA has been organized around four key committees:

1. Communications. Responsible for keeping parents informed of the many great things going on at SJE and with the HSA. A new emailed newsletter will debut this fall, and the communication committee will also be working on keeping the website updated on a regular basis with key information for parents. Email is a key tool in all SJE communications. If we don't have your email address(es), please send your contact information through now. Chair: Gina Cuccovia-Simoneau

2. Teacher Appreciation. The name kind of says it all. This committee works to make sure our great faculty and staff understand just how important they are to our students and families. Chairs: Heather Mulligan and Anne Fay.

3. Welcoming/New Families. Helping all new families get off to a great start at SJE is the mission of this committee. From a kindergarten kick-off picnic in August to a buddy program (so that new families have an experienced family to lean on for questions big and small) to a presence at Open House and beyond for incoming families -- our Welcoming Committee is in many ways responsible for the first impression families will have of St. John's. Chairs: Darlene & Steve Blazejewski

4. Family Social and Spiritual Events. This is the biggy when it comes to total volunteers needed and total activities organized. Looking to volunteer but perhaps not sign up for a year-long commitment? We've got dozens of activities planned, each with its own committee. Playing even a small helper role on a single event is a huge help. Contact the HSA if there's an event you'd like to help with or if you'd simply like us to find a great spot for you to pitch in. Tentative 2007-2008 plans include: Santa Breakfast, NYC trip, Ski trip, Family Movie Night and more.... Please check our Calendar and end events pages for specifics as they arise. (And, of course, our new email newsletter will keep you in the loop, as well.) Chairs: Lori Wasserman & Wendy Smith

The HSA will have three general meetings throughout the year. (See Calendar) These are open to the entire school community. Sister will give updates on what's been happening around school and we'll also provide a run-down on HSA happenings. 'Each general meeting will likely also include a speaker or similar guest/content piece. Most of the day-to-day work of the HSA will take place at the committee or event level, and we encourage you to get connected with one or several efforts where you'd like to pitch in.

It's worth repeating that the SJE HSA is open to all and we'd love any level (a little or a lot) or type (from-home, at-school, weekends, etc.) of involvement you'd like to give. Please feel free to contact the HSA (emails below) anytime, and we'll do all we can to be of service.

Looking forward to a great year.
