Mission
Our mission is to proclaim THE GOSPEL MESSAGE, to prepare each student to be a leader spiritually, intellectually, academically and socially so that he or she will be able to create a preferred future.

History
St. John the Evangelist School has been and continues to be incorporated into the longstanding educational mission of the Roman Catholic Church, within the Diocese of Fall River. As a Catholic, coeducational elementary school (K-8), St. John the Evangelist School opened its doors to the children of the parish in 1955. Its purpose then and now is the integration of faith and learning.
Today St. John the Evangelist School, accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, has an enrollment of over 260 students in Grades K-8. Over 88% of the students are from the St. John the Evangelist Parish. The remainder of the student body come from neighboring parishes and towns.

Philosophy
St. John the Evangelist School is a Catholic Parochial School which strives to educate and prepare children to assume their roles in church and society. As a faith community, we are challenged to live in word and deed the Gospel Message and integrate effectively faith and learning. Our role, in collaboration with parents, is to foster moral development and spiritual and educational growth in an atmosphere of Christian love and respect.

Curriculum
Students learn best when challenged, when the learning process is diverse and when there is accommodation for individual differences. The academic program employs a variety of techniques that are a combination of a traditional and contemporary approaches to learning. There is continuity in skill building insured through the use of sequential materials in Religion, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Emphasis is placed on the development of creative, critical, and logical thinking, writing, and problem solving skills. Various other approaches used to facilitate learning include hands on activities, incorporation of technology and the mastery of basic skills, small and large group instruction, cooperative learning groups and the practical application of acquired knowledge. A balanced curriculum is provided through the integration of Art, Music, Computer and Physical Education. Extra curricula activities include Student Council and Basketball.

Student Assessment
Report Cards are distributed three times a year. Progress Reports / Warning Notices are distributed midway through the marking period. Student grades are based on class participation, group interaction, independent classwork, homework and testing. Standardized testing is done annually in Grades 2-7 to assess skill mastery.

Parental Involvement
Active parent involvement is a hallmark of our school. Our active Home & School Association (HSA) works year-round to support the school, build parent involvement and create a community among all of our families. There is an active calendar of family events year-round. Volunteer opportunities include everything from HSA participation and leadership to classroom help, cafeteria help and more.
